We all know that plastics are become our daily basic need but the problem is plastic take 20 to 500 years to degrade. At this situation we do recycling of plastics and only 10% of plastics waste can be recycle and rest of all just thrown out in our environment that makes nature polluted. Just because we also can not burn plastics due to harmful chemicals releasing from it we have safe side to wait and degrade them or to recycle them. Sadly people are not aware about it but we don't know how our nature is strong. The nature are started to clean themselves so today's blog is all about a solution to degrade plastics.
In our previous blog I had also talked about a plastic eating worm we you want to know more just click here,
When we talk about pollution, water pollution are the one of the biggest problem in india. And also ocean, lakes, ponds are mostly polluted because of the plastics. Plastics are present in different forms through out the ocean and now scientists discovered that ocean starts to clean itself by some fungi. Fungi is nothing but a plant which do not have leaves or flowers. So the question is it possible that a fungi can eat plastic or degrade plastic?
1. Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus): These mushrooms have been shown to degrade polyurethane (PU) plastic, a common plastic used in foam cushions and insulation.
2. Pestalotiopsis microspora: This fungus has been found to break down polyethylene (PE) plastic, a common plastic used in packaging and plastic bags.
3. Aspergillus terreus: This fungus has been shown to degrade polypropylene (PP) plastic, a common plastic used in packaging and automotive parts.
4. Fusarium oxysporum: This fungus has been found to break down polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic, a common plastic used in water bottles and food packaging.
These fungi work by secreting enzymes that break down the plastic polymers into smaller components, which can then be further degraded by other microorganisms. While these fungi show promise for plastic degradation, more research is needed to fully understand their potential and limitations.
But remember this is not the solution, we have to put some limitations while using plastics. Throwing plastics, increase the pollution and alone such fungi can not clean the environment.
