These physicians of ancient India are known today as Father of Surgery.
He also did research of 300 surgeries. Also he teaches there technique to other young students . From where did he teach, we will know the answers to many such questions in our blog today.
About 2600 years ago, in the Vedic society, there lived a sage named Susthuta. Sushruta lived in an area named Kashi in North India, which is today called Varanasi or benaras.
At that time, the wise were called Sadhus or Maharishis, one of them was also Sushruta, he had taken the knowledge of medicine from Kashiraj devodas who was the maharaja I mean king of Kashi that time. Being a doctor at that time, he had to treat the warriors and from there he got the inspiration of Surjury.
Along with the wounds engaged in the war, the body parts of the warrior were also broken and sometimes the warrior's nose was cut off in punishment for defeat and this is where Sushruta invented the nose surjury.
As time passed, Sushruta also discovered the surjury of eyes and then Sushruta realized that now some of surgery instruments will also be needed and the need is searched.
And keeping this need in mind, Sushruta invented 121 instruments.
Sushruta wrote this invaluable knowledge of his in a Sanskrit script whose name is Sushruta Samhita.
This Sanskrit scripture describing the procedure of surgery is one of the 3 pillars of Ayurveda and is also a section of Atharva Veda. Sushruta Samhita shows how Sushruta dissected Body without a knife and studied it. His way of practicing human anatomy was like this, he kept the dead body in water and wait for decompose. And because of this, he studied the body layer by layer while studying the body over time. This experiment helped Sushruta to invent difficult surgeries like caesarean, abdominal and brain surgeries.
The Sushruta Samhita, written in 600 BC, and the wonderful Sanskrit scripture of Surjury and medicine, came to the world in 800 AD in an Arab translation, named Shah Dur- al-Hindi and Kitab-e-Susurd
In early 1900 AD Dr.francicus Hesser translate sushruta samhita in Latin and Max muller in German.
And thats how Sushruta Samhita and its author Maharishi Sushruta got international recognition but over time his name and his importance got lost.
In 1907, Kaviraj Kunjlal of Calcutta translated the Sushruta Samhita into English but it was not given much importance.
In 2000, when the country was giving importance to Ayurveda, people came to know about Sushruta and his contribution.Sushruta Samhita is considered one of the many gems of Ancient Indian Literature.
Manuscript, one of the oldest Sushruta Samhitas written on palm leaf, is kept in the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art.
Sushruta wrote the scripture of Surjury to a different height, that time of 600 BC was today known as the Golden Year of Surgery.
In 2018 the Royal Australian College of Surgeons built an effigy of Sushruta on its campus
Impressed by Sushruta's intellect, Dr. Alan Whipple said
"all in all sushruta must be considered as the greatest surgeon of per mediaeval period".
Sushruta means which everyone knows about and Sushruta had also proved this.
I hope so as Sushruta earned a lot of name in his life, in the same way you also have something big in your life so that your country should be proud of you not only your country but everyone.
At the end,
"Don't be like anyone, do something that everyone wants to be like you"
"किसी की तरह मत बनो कुछ ऐसा करो की हर कोई आपकी तराह बनाना चाहे"
Thats all for today see you in the next blog. Thankyou.
