You must have heard the name Kabir Das, all of us must have heard one of the couplets of Kabir Das ji at one time or another and it may be that the meaning of any of them is also known to the public and it may not be known.
So today we will learn the meaning of some of his couplets, so let's start.
1) दुःख में सुमिरन सब करे, सुख में करे न कोय । जो सुख में सुमिरन करे, तो दुःख काहे को होय ।
अर्थ : कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि दुःख के समय सभी भगवान् को याद करते हैं पर सुख में कोई नहीं करता। यदि सुख में भी भगवान् को याद किया जाए तो दुख हो ही क्यों !
Meaning-Kabir Das ji says that everyone remembers God in times of sorrow but no one does in happiness. If God is remembered even in happiness, then why should there be sorrow?
2) चलती चक्की देख के, दिया कबीरा रोये । दो पाटन के बीच में, साबुत बचा न कोए ।
अर्थ- अर्थात ये मायावी दुनिया एक चक्की की तरह है, जो अपनी रफ़्तार से चल रहा है और जो इसके बीच आया वो पिस जाता है ।।
Meaning- That is, this illusory world is like a mill, which is running at its own speed and whoever comes in between it gets crushed.
3) “पाथर पूजे हरी मिले, तो मै पूजू पहाड़ ! घर की चक्की कोई न पूजे, जाको पीस खाए संसार !!”
अर्थ- कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि अगर पत्थर की पूजा करने से श्री राम मिल जाएंगे तो पहाड़ की पूजा करते हैं। घर की चक्की याने जिससे गेहु को पीस कर आता है जाता है उसकी पूजा कोई नहीं करता बाल्की घर के लोगो का पेट भरने में मदत करता है वो।
Meaning- Kabir Das ji says that if by worshiping the stone, Shri Ram can be found, then I worship the mountain. No one worships the mill of the house, which is used to grind wheat into aata.
4) “जो तूं ब्राह्मण , ब्राह्मणी का जाया ! आन बाट काहे नहीं आया !! ”
अर्थ- अपने आप को ब्राह्मण होने पर गर्व करने वाले ज़रा यह तो बताओ की जो तुम अपने आप की महान कहते तो फिर तुम किसी अन्य रास्ते से या तरीके से पैदा क्यों नहीं हुआ ? जिस रास्ते से हम सब पैदा हुए हैं , तुम भी उसी रास्ते से ही क्यों पैदा हुए है ? कोई आज यही बात बोलने की ' हिम्मत ' भी नहीं करता ओर कबीर सदियों पहले कह गए ।
Meaning- Those who take pride in being a brahmin, tell me that if you call yourself great, then Why were you born on the same path as we were all born? No one even dares to say the same thing today and Kabir said it centuries ago.
5) “माटी का एक नाग बनाके, पुजे लोग लुगाया ! जिंदा नाग जब घर मे निकले, ले लाठी धमकाया !!”
अर्थ- कबीर दास जी कहते हैं की लोग मिट्टी का नाग बनार उसकी पूजा करते हैं, जब घर में असली नाग मिलता है तो उसे लाठी से मार कर भागा देते हैं।
Meaning- Kabir Das ji says that people worship him by making earthen snakes, but when a real snake is found in the house, they beat him with sticks and drive him away.
6) "माटी कहे कुमार से, तू क्या रोंदे मोहे । एक दिन ऐसा आएगा, मैं रोंदुंगी तोहे ।"
अर्थ- कबीर दास जी कहते हैं एक दिन जब कुम्हार मिट्टी को रोंध (मिला) रहा था तब मिट्टी ने बोला आज तू मुझे मिला (रोंध) रहा है एक दिन में तुझे रोंध (मिला रहा) होगा।
Meaning- Kabir Das ji says that one day when the potter was mixing the soil, then the soil said that today you have met me , in one day you will be crying.
7) "काल करे सो आज कर, आज करे सो अब । पल में परलय होएगी, बहुरि करेगा कब ।"
अर्थ- कबीर दास जी समय की महत्ता बताते हुए कहते हैं कि जो कल करना है उसे आज करो और और जो आज करना है उसे अभी करो , कुछ ही समय में जीवन ख़त्म हो जायेगा फिर तुम क्या कर पाओगे !
Meaning- Describing the importance of time, Kabir Das ji says that whatever you have to do tomorrow, do it today and whatever you have to do today, do it now, life will end in no time, then what will you be able to do!
8) "ज्यों तिल माहि तेल है, ज्यों चकमक में आग । तेरा साईं तुझ ही में है, जाग साके तो जग।"
अर्थ- कबीर दास जी कहते हैं जैसे के. अंदर तेल है और आग के अंदर चमक है ठीक वे तुम्हारे और वह तुम्हारा भगवान है दुंध साको तो दुंध लो।
Meaning- Kabir Das ji says that just as there is oil inside the til and there is glow in the fire, in the same way your God is inside you, if you can find it, find it.
9) जग में बैरी कोई नहीं, जो मन शीतल होए । यह आपा तो डाल दे, दया करे सब कोए ।
अर्थ-आपके मन में यदि शीतलता है , अर्थात दया और सहानुभूति है , तो संसार में आपकी किसी से शत्रुता नहीं हो सकती । इसलिए अपने अहंकार को निकाल बाहर करें , और आप अपने प्रति दूसरों में भी समवेदना पाएंगे ।
Meaning- If you have coolness in your mind, that is, kindness and sympathy, then you cannot have enmity with anyone in the world. So throw out your ego, and you will find sympathy towards yourself in others.
10) "गुरु गोविंद दोऊ खड़े ,काके लागू पाय । बलिहारी गुरु आपने , गोविंद दियो मिलाय ।।"
अर्थ-यदि गुरु और ईश्वर , दोनों साथ में खड़े हों , तो किसे पहले प्रणाम करना चाहिए ? कबीर कहते हैं , गुरु का स्थान ईश्वर से भी ऊपर है , क्योंकि गुरु की शिक्षा के कारण ही भगवान् के दर्शन होते हैं ।
Meaning- If both the Guru and God stand together, then who should be bowed down first? Kabir says, the place of the Guru is above even God, because it is only because of the teachings of the Guru that one can see the Lord.
11) "सब धरती काजग करू, लेखनी सब वनराज । सात समुद्र की मसि करूँ, गुरु गुण लिखा न जाए ।"
भावार्थ- अगर मैं इस पूरी धरती के बराबर बड़ा कागज बनाऊं और दुनियां के सभी वृक्षों की कलम बना लूँ और सातों समुद्रों के बराबर स्याही बना लूँ तो भी गुरु के गुणों को लिखना संभव नहीं है ।
Meaning, even if I make a paper as big as the whole earth and make pen of all the trees of the world and ink equal to the seven oceans, It's impossible to list the qualities of a Guru in writing.
12) "ऐसी वाणी बोलिए मन का आप खोये । औरन को शीतल करे, आपहुं शीतल होए ।"
अर्थ- अगर अपने भाषा से अहं को हटा दिया जाए , तो दूसरों के साथ खुद को भी शान्ति मिलती है । ,
Meaning- If the ego is removed from one's language, then one finds peace with others. ,
13) "बड़ा भया तो क्या भया, जैसे पेड़ खजूर । पंथी को छाया नहीं फल लागे अति दूर ।"
अर्थ : खजूर का पेड़ न तो राही को छाया देता है , और न ही उसका फल आसानी से पाया जा सकता है । इसी तरह , उस शक्ति का कोई महत्व नहीं है , जो दूसरों के काम नहीं आ सकती ।
Meaning: The date palm tree neither gives shade to Rahi, nor its fruit can be found easily. Similarly, that power is of no importance, which cannot be of any use to others.
14) "बुरा जो देखन मैं चला, बुरा न मिलिया कोय । जो मन देखा आपना, मुझ से बुरा न कोय ।"
अर्थ-जब मैं इस संसार में बुराई खोजने चला तो मुझे कोई बुरा न मिला . जब मैंने अपने मन में झाँक कर देखा तो पाया कि मुझसे बुरा कोई नहीं है .
Meaning- When I went in search of evil in this world, I did not find any bad. When I looked into my mind, I found that there is no one worse than me.
Here are some more dohe and now it's your turn to find it's meaning and importance in your life.
1) "तन विष की बेलरी, गुरु अमृत की खान । शीश दियो जो गुरु मिले, तो भी सस्ता जान ।"
2) पाहन पूजे हरि मिलें, तो मैं पूजौं पहार। याते ये चक्की भली, पीस खाय संसार।।
3) मलिन आवत देख के, कलियन कहे पुकार । फूले फूले चुन लिए, कलि हमारी बार ।
3) जाती न पूछो साधू की, पूछ लीजिये ज्ञान । मोल करो तलवार का, पड़ा रहने दो म्यान ।
4) तीरथ गए से एक फल, संत मिले फल चार । सतगुरु मिले अनेक फल, कहे कबीर विचार ।
5) नहाये धोये क्या हुआ, जो मन मैल न जाए । मीन सदा जल में रहे, धोये बास न जाए ।
6) कबीर सुता क्या करे, जागी न जपे मुरारी । एक दिन तू भी सोवेगा, लम्बे पाँव पसारी ।
7) जिनके नौबति बाजती, मैंगल बंधते बारि । एकै हरि के नाव बिन, गए जनम सब हारि ॥
8) मैं-मैं बड़ी बलाइ है, सकै तो निकसो भाजि । कब लग राखौ हे सखी, रूई लपेटी आगि ॥
9) उजला कपड़ा पहरि करि, पान सुपारी खाहिं । एकै हरि के नाव बिन, बाँधे जमपुरि जाहिं ॥
10)कहा कियौ हम आइ करि, कहा कहैंगे जाइ । इत के भये न उत के, चाले मूल गंवाइ ॥
11)`कबीर’ नौबत आपणी, दिन दस लेहु बजाइ । ए पुर पाटन, ए गली, बहुरि न देखै आइ ॥
